  • Christmas Week

    5/5

We enjoyed our stay at Oak Grove. The location was great and quiet. The host was very nice and even left us some homemade Christmas cookies. The neighborhood dog BJ was wonderful and such a good host as well. Even though we spent most of our day away from the cabin it was still a nice place to come back to. We would have liked to have had a tv to watch at night time before bed and it would have also been nice to be able to do our laundry there as well but overall our stay was good and we would definitely stay there again.

  • Buyer beware!

There are so many problems here I'll probably leave at least one out. But let's start like this. The property management company, Evolve, is outrageously jacking up the price. Listed at one price when I booked for 3 nights, the overall cost ended up being slightly less than double. You cannot pay the entire cost up front. I know. I tried. Then a week before your trip, Evolve drops a HUGE bill in your lap. They might be friendly, but their business practices are the worst. In fact, you can no longer review them on another popular travel site, because the ratings were so low that they pulled the whole company off. The property consists of two tiny houses (just like all the HGTV shows) connected by a deck that share a common space between them. It would be fine as long as you are renting both places. If you are only renting one though, you'd better hope the other people are on the same wavelength as you. If you want a peaceful weekend but the other people are still blasting music at 1 a.m., well, too bad for you. The fire pit and the grills are dangerous with a capital D. The grills wobble so badly that they will be responsible for burning the place down before too long. The fire pit cover is so torn and broken that embers just float freely around. And then there is check out. Like I said, these are tiny houses. A loft with a 30 inch ceiling and 18 inch risers on the stairs and a bedroom so small that there is no room to walk without turning sideways. I'm an old man (I was there with my 7yo grandson). I could barely make it into that loft. But as part of check out I was required to strip the beds. The kid couldn't do it by himself. So I'm up there rolling around on my 70yo belly, pulling down the sheets so the 20-something that owns the place won't be too put out. They make it very clear that they have your card on file, and will charge you if there's anything about your stay they don't like, including not following their check out rules. The outdoor areas are unusable, except for the small common area between the "cabins." They don't cut the grass and there is no flat space, so just expect to be hanging out in the common area all day. So I'll be surprised if they actually post this review. As bad as this place (and especially Evolve) is, there should be at least SOME lower ratings. But every single one was five stars at the time I booked. No ability to rate on other popular sites. They are making sure you can't find out how bad it is.

    Manager's Response:

Hi Craig, Evolve here. We wanted to address a few of the statements that you made. Evolve has not been removed from any booking sites. If a listing has all five stars, that's because it's a great place to stay! We are sorry if this was just not the right place for you. We cannot remove reviews from booking sites unless they specifically violate the content policies of the site, and that is not up to us to decide. We also break down the price and any fees before booking. We also wanted to pass along the following feedback from the homeowners: "We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. We wish you had let us know about your concerns, as we would have been happy to take care of anything you needed to make sure you had a great stay. We could have quieted the neighbors. You wouldn't have needed to strip the beds. We will check the grill and firepit and make repairs as necessary. We have done our best to make sure the listing is completely accurate from the description to the photos so that guests know exactly what they are getting. The listing clearly describes the size of the rental and shows pictures of the loft. This rental is marketed as a nature getaway with kayaks and stand up paddle boards. Since the land is on a lake and in the mountains, the ground is not going to be level. We have created a nice flat patio area (about 900 square feet) for guests to relax and have built a 500 square foot deck with a beautiful view. During our communication we let you know that the owner also has a seven year old grandchild, and is not a 20-something. As always, if there is ever anything we can do to make sure you have a great stay, please don't hesitate to ask. We look forward to continuing to provide a five-star experience for our guests!"
